I was driving down the freeway today, radio blaring like always, but it didn’t feel right. I thought, This is really noisy. I scanned until I hit the classical station. Ah, much better. And that’s when it hit me. It’s October.
Are you noticing the change in seasons? Sure, there are a few leaves changing here, but we don’t really get much color until November, and even then, it’s pretty mild. No, what I’m noticing is more with me. Every year, about this time, the tunes I’ve danced to and nodded my head to and banged the steering wheel to and belted out through open car windows all summer long are just too much. Summer’s heat finally breaks, and the rain returns. Mornings are foggy, and evenings are cool. I want soft violin as the leaves swirl around outside my car. I light candles after dinner and listen to jazz and dig out blankets to read under on the couch.
I feel things start to calm down.
So when I sat down today and pulled out my stash of vintage jewelry to see what I wanted to work on, it felt overwhelming.
So I went monochromatic and simple and calm today.
Two thrifted silver necklaces became two pairs of simple silver earrings.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I love color. And there will be plenty more colorful projects I’ll be working on this month. But, today, this is more my speed.
Do you have some calm, relaxing weekend plans? I’ll be wearing my new earrings to book club tonight, and then the rest of the weekend is unscheduled. Should be lovely!

love your stash of vintage jewelry… It’s always so much fun to sit and pick through your things that you’ve forgotten you have.
Thank you! And yes, so fun!
