31 Days: The Thrift Project – Day 22: Delicious Autumn Necklace

I love fall. It is my favorite time of year – the cooler days, the leaves changing color, and, in Northern California, the return of rain. Where we live, the color change in the leaves is not as drastic as it was when we lived in Tennessee, but I’ve already seen a few maples starting to burn red around town. When we were in Tahoe last week, the aspens were turning to bright shades of yellow – beautiful.

A few weeks ago, I hit the thrift store and perused every piece of jewelry they had in their display.

And there were a lot of pieces! I found several great brooches, some random necklaces that had nice chains, and a few other pieces that I might be able to use.

I really liked the pieces of this necklace when I saw it. It’s very lightweight, with all the beads and “metalwork” made from resin.

I tossed all the “gold” pieces and cut the beads loose. I arranged and rearranged the beads to find a good layout for a necklace. I used gold plated eye pins and head pins, as well as some gold plated chain, to create the final piece.

And this is what I ended up with. I like the way the colors look when arranged in a color gradient – echoing the change of maple leaves in the fall.

And here it is! I love the way it turned out! It works well a little more dressed up with a vintage silk blouse…

…and it’s just as lovely with a simple, casual sweater.

I’m going to be wearing this necklace a lot this fall.
